Mindful Movement and Hike🥾with UNH Health and Wellness Extension with 4-H! 🍀 What did we do? SELT’s Outdoor Education Specialist Lizzy led us on a beautiful wooded trail🥾 Katie from @quiet_mind_wild_heart had us set an intention for the day. Guided us to walk mindfully through the woods. Katie read from Here and Now and we then journaled sitting by a pond. ✍️ Taking Root (me!) guided students through a 5 senses meditation, a nature based education activity called sound mapping 🗺️ and gentle yoga movement. 🧘🏽‍♀️ Students connected to themselves, each other, and nature while learning different mindfulness tools they can take with them! Yesterday we hosted a Nature and Mindfulness Session for Seacoast Science Center staff! Seacoast Science Center is located at beautiful Odiorne Point in Rye, NH. 🐋 🦭 Our Session: 🌱Grounding breathwork 🌱Mediation on Your Internal Ecosystem 🌱Shared out and connected with our coworkers 🌱Silent Nature Walk 🌱Reflection 🌱Gentle Yoga Movement FUN FACT: I worked as a naturalist at Seacoast Science Center 7 years ago. I took this job as I was entering graduate school to become a science educator! Today was another full circle, and felt rewarding! ✨ 🌊 Taking Root will join m the Eco Stewards group from Seacoast Science Center again this summer. Grades 6-8 meeting a local beaches and hiking trails along the seacoast! Camp registrations have been open for some time, but we have a great offering for you! Girls Empowerment Camp. Grades 6th-8th! Taking Root and Quiet Mind wild Heart will be offering a week-long Nature and Mindfulness experience for 6th-8th grade girls to build grit and a sense of confidence to navigate the changing stress teens encounter. This program will combine a variety of activities to empower young women through community building games, gentle yoga movement, mindful hiking, journaling, and arts and crafts! If you’ve been following along with my story you know that this is my first year out of the public school system for many years (oh and incase you missed it, I officially resigned a few months ago. Woo🙌🏼✨) Around school vacation breaks it makes me reflect on where I used to be during this time of year. I would be crawling my way into school vacation weeks. I would always book myself something kind like a massage, float session, extra yoga class, get outside more, because I felt like I could never treat myself to these “extra” moments throughout my actual school year. When in reality is when I needed it the most. I would usually find myself run down and sick now that my body wasn’t in constant fight or flight. I would try to make too many plans to see friends and family who I couldn’t see much during the school year. School breaks became something I looked forward to in order to rest. Part of my reason for taking this leap to start my own business: ✨I wanted to work for myself on my own time. ✨I wanted to prioritize rest. ✨I wanted to prioritize where I was expanding my energy. ✨I wanted my work in this world to be something that I was fully passionate about. Don’t get me wrong teaching is still that but now I get to teach in a different way- MY way. I am grateful to be able to look back and reflect on where I’ve been in order to get me to where I am today. ✨The number one overarching theme is I’ve invested in myself. ✨ I’ve invested in myself physically, energetically, emotionally, financially, and have invested in my over all mental health in doing so. Investing in yourself can feel scary at times and undeserving. Excited to partner up again with UNH Health and Wellness Extension and 4-H for a Mindful Movement and Hike! 🥾 This is a two-hour immersive nature experience using mindfulness-based practices to engage participants in connecting with their thoughts and feelings, while meeting new people and enjoying the beautiful trails at Burley Farms, SELT trails, Epping, New Hampshire! Taking Root will be presenting along with @quiet_mind_wild_heart and @seltnh! We will use a guided approach to the day, using tools and techniques like low- impact hiking and gentle yoga as well as exercises like walking meditation 🧘🏽‍♀️and creating a sound map! 🗺️ Cost: FREE! Thanks to a grant from the 4H Foundation of New Hampshire! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Participants will need: Comfortable clothing for movement and walking (Event will be held rain or shine, so planning clothing accordingly!) We gave back by cleaning up our community. 20% of each of their tickets will be donated to BLUE OCEAN SOCIETY! 🐋 Thank you for celebrating Earth Day with us! 🎉 🌍 Grateful for all the earth provides us everyday!
